About the Office of the Attorney General

The Office of the Attorney General is the chief legal office of the US state and is responsible for providing legal advice and representation to the state. The office is divided into several divisions, including the Division of Criminal Justice, the Division of Civil Rights, and the Division of Law.

About the Position

The Deputy Chief of Litigation will assist the Chief of Litigation in overseeing the litigation function of the office, which includes managing a team of attorneys and support staff, coordinating with other divisions, and handling complex legal cases.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief of Litigation in managing the day-to-day operations of the litigation function, including supervision of attorneys and support staff, and coordination with other divisions.
  • Handle complex legal cases, including appellate and trial court litigation, and provide guidance and support to other attorneys in the office.
  • Develop and implement litigation strategies, as well as manage caseloads and prioritize cases.
  • Collaborate with other divisions, such as the Division of Criminal Justice and the Division of Civil Rights, to advance the office's litigation goals.
  • Provide training and mentorship to attorneys and support staff, and assist in the development of policies and procedures for the litigation function.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the state bar.
  • At least 8 years of litigation experience, including experience in appellate and trial court litigation.
  • Excellent legal writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and supervise a team of attorneys and support staff.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to prioritize cases and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
