About Inflection AI:

Inflection AI is a public benefit corporation building the next generation of large language models and tools for enterprise AI. They operate with the urgency and focus of a true startup—lean, collaborative, and fast-moving—with a deeply experienced team and cutting-edge technology. Their team is small but mighty, and they’re looking for mission-aligned people who want to help define how AI can be deployed responsibly at scale.

The Opportunity:

Inflection AI is hiring a Director, Product, Privacy and AI to lead on legal issues related to product, AI, privacy, trust and safety, cybersecurity, and data governance. This will be the second full-time legal hire, reporting directly to the General Counsel, and will play a key role in managing critical day-to-day legal responsibilities while contributing to strategic growth and risk management across the company.

This role is perfect for a product and privacy attorney looking to gain hands-on experience with the full range of legal and regulatory challenges in AI, while building a strong foundation for future career growth.

Why This Role Matters:

Inflection AI needs someone who can take full ownership of day-to-day legal work in key areas so that the legal function can scale effectively with the company. You’ll be trusted to lead their legal efforts on product, privacy, compliance, aspects of customer agreements, internal operations, and safety while partnering cross-functionally with product, engineering, and go-to-market teams.

You’ll also be instrumental in helping implement their enterprise contract management system, bringing structure and scale to their commercial workflows.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide legal guidance on product development, AI features, privacy, IP, and data security.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to implement privacy-by-design and safety-by-design principles.
  • Support product launch reviews, assess risk, and help operationalize privacy and safety practices across teams.
  • Lead legal efforts on global privacy and AI regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, AI Act) and ensure practical implementation.
  • Serve as the legal partner for trust & safety issues, internal policy development, and cross-functional safety governance.
  • Manage data governance processes, including data mapping, DPIAs, model evaluations, and vendor risk assessments.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including NDAs, DPAs, and product-related contracts.
  • Help implement and scale our enterprise contract management system.
  • Collaborate with the General Counsel on legal ops improvements, external counsel management, and internal workflows.
  • Engage with regulators, external partners, and policy stakeholders on privacy, AI, and compliance issues.

Who You are:

  • J.D. and bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5 to 12 years of legal experience in product, privacy, cybersecurity, or commercial (law firm or in-house).
  • Experience as a product counsel with expertise across product, privacy, AI, IP, and emerging legal issues.
  • Deep familiarity with privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and experience advising on data-related risks and practices.
  • Strong interest in AI governance, safety, and emerging regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with issues systemic to data flows and data science, the rise of LLMs, and broader AI-related legal and compliance issues.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and building processes from scratch in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to operate as an individual contributor, demonstrating a hands-on approach needed to succeed.
  • Practical, thoughtful communicator who enjoys working cross-functionally.
  • Excited to be part of a mission-driven company with an ambitious roadmap.
  • Strong work ethic and an ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across the company on complex, multifaceted issues.

Why This Role at Inflection:

  • Unparalleled exposure to cutting-edge legal and regulatory issues in AI.
  • Broad scope—you’ll touch everything from product to policy, from M&A to compliance.
  • Mentorship and growth—ideal training ground for a future GC.
  • High ownership in a lean, high-trust legal team.
  • Startup culture with a fun, collaborative, and intellectually vibrant team.
  • Mission-driven environment building transformative technology responsibly.
  • Real-time impact—your work will directly shape how we scale our product and engage with enterprise customers and regulators.
