POSITION SUMMARY:

Lead the system-wide contracting initiatives, contract development and contract administration program. Proactively manage the contracting processes to negotiate the best agreements focused on risk mitigation, quality, safety and expense management. Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical departments, supply chain, and senior leadership across all disciplines and CHST companies to identify, define, promote, and communicate contracting strategies. Interact with executive leadership, hospital and department directors, physicians and vendors in matters related to contract acceptability, costs, and utilization.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

Maintains in depth knowledge of GPO contracts and solid knowledge of other GPO product category programs; including standardization rebate programs; group buys; and other bulk buy opportunities. Proactively plans for the GPO bid cycle and keeps informed of GPO contracting award calendar. Maintains in-depth knowledge of Children's local contracts.

Sets the expectation with the contract management team to initiate contract reviews and all administrative tasks prospectively. Evaluates, sets and maintains the departmental and organizational processes and procedures to manage contract portfolios comprehensively, and plan annual contract negotiation priorities and resources.

Establishes and advises on multiyear strategies and associated milestones, and develops consultative relationships with system leaders to clearly identify negotiation needs prior to renewals to include financial and non-financial opportunities for improvement. Make contracting timeframe decisions guided by resource availability and functional objectives that affect the results of the function. Directs the prioritization and work products of the contract management team.

Provides training and guidance to establish and reinforce all contracting standards. Communicates priorities and expectations, monitors progress, and provides direction and course corrections.

Build and manage the contracting pipeline to prospectively anticipate contract work assignments and align strategic contracting opportunities with departmental plans.

Works with Children's legal to create, revise and manage contracting templates and non-negotiable terms for use with vendor contracting. Is considered an expert in Children's terms and condition and is authorized to negotiate operational terms independently on Children's behalf. Works with contract managers to support and advance negotiations, as well as individually negotiates, important contracts with suppliers.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

  •  Manages the contract management team to the standard of ensuring contract compliance. Is the executive point of escalation during vendor/contract disputes. Assesses and gains support for remedies with internal stakeholders.  
  •  Monitors data indicating contracting activities progress and effectiveness. Identifies performance trends and coaches to improvement. Collaborates with Children's legal team on redlined contract terms and conditions as well as other legal related items and terms.

Work Experience 

Experience 

  •  At least 10 years Experience in contract negotiation and/or contract management and/or contract portfolio management and at least 4 years Management experience required 

Education

  •  Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required  
  •  Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience
