Overview

As the Legal Director, Strategic Accounts, you will hold a pivotal position within the Commercial Legal Team to support the success of the TTR franchise within Alnylam’s Organized Customers. Our team is at the forefront of commercializing an industry-leading TTR Franchise, with a focus on preparing for the potential launch of vutrisiran in ATTR amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM). If approved, vutrisiran is anticipated to emerge with a market-leading profile in ATTR-CM, a disease state with significant unmet patient needs.

In this role, you will be entrusted with partnering with and advising the Strategic Accounts Management (SAM) team as they develop comprehensive strategies and tactics to support and communicate the value of Alnylam’s therapies within Organized Customers. This position will report to the Vice President Legal, TTR Strategy and US Business Unit, and will require you to work in a fast paced, rapidly growing organization, partnering effectively with various stakeholders, including with colleagues within the Commercial Legal team, as well as other expertise areas at Alnylam including Market Access, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Regulatory, Ethics & Compliance, and Privacy.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of healthcare laws as they relate to health informatics (e.g., EMR), medical and pharmacy benefit coverage and reimbursement, fraud and abuse (AKS), false claims, and appropriate communications with healthcare professionals and payers.

This position is remote and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as legal business partner to the U.S. SAM team
  • Provides pragmatic, solutions-oriented, proactive counseling in the development and execution of strategies for established and newly launched products in the US, including arrangements with Health Systems, Integrated Delivery Networks, Integrated Provider Networks, and GPOs 
  • Advises on:
  • Innovative solutions that address key challenges and opportunities faced by different strategic account types 
  • Comprehensive above-brand solutions for customers 
  • Account segmentation, positioning and SAM goals / objectives 
  • Commercial publications and communications tailored to strategic accounts to drive awareness / adoption for innovative solutions 
  • Drafts, negotiates and reviews service-related agreements, including: innovative/value-based agreements, data purchase agreements, health outcome and health equity-related agreements 
  • Analyzes SAM initiatives to ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies, including Anti-kickback Statute and other US healthcare compliance laws and regulations, antitrust, and FDA requirements. 
  • Collaborates with other Alnylam lawyers and as a member of cross-functional team to ensure that advice and risk-tolerance is consistent and clear and implemented accordingly. 
  • Ensures that colleagues are kept abreast of all relevant legal and regulatory requirements and legal developments by developing and providing training and periodic updates. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, Juris Doctor from an accredited law school in the U.S. is required, with excellent academic credentials is preferred 
  • Minimum of 8 years of legal experience 
  • Experience in pharma / biotech industry, or from a law firm working on healthcare-related matters 
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including advanced contracting skills with strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a wide variety of company colleagues as well as with external parties on a broad range of matters 
  • Ability to make and communicate thoughtful, integrated and timely decisions and take corresponding actions 
  • Manage outside counsel as specialized advice is required for projects or activities 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, to work independently and manage discrete areas of responsibility, and to flourish in a fast-paced and high energy environment 
  • Strong organizational skills in order to maintain a high level of productivity, innovation and priority-settling in order to meet commitments on-time and handle a high volume of work 
  • Proven ability to work with a high level of integrity, transparency, accuracy and attention to detail
