Position Overview
We are looking for a Global Legal Director based in New York City to lead various legal and compliance initiatives in the United States and around the world.
Reporting to the CFO with a dotted line to the Head of Legal & Compliance of La Prairie Group, this crucial role will partner with various stakeholders across the Chantecaille business to protect and grow the brand.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide daily legal advice to all CHANTECAILLE business teams
- Advise and coordinate with executives, managers, and other personnel to identify and resolve legal and compliance issues and provide ongoing counsel, advice, and support
- Draft and negotiate various commercial contracts (e.g. supply and distribution/retail agreements)
- Draft contract templates and other legal documents based on existing global group standards
- Establish and maintain contract management (policy, database etc.)
- Review marketing materials, artwork claims, and company communications (digital, social media, television, and print) for compliance with laws and regulations (e.g. FTC, FDA)
- Review potential claims to determine validity, compliance
- Manage any potential/pending litigation
- Stay abreast of any applicable changes in regulations, laws, as well as legal challenges occurring in similarly situated industries.
- Maintain Corporate Housekeeping for all CHANTECAILLE entities including but not limited to board consents, resolutions, minutes, and other corporate entity maintenance matters
- Establish and strengthen the compliance culture of the CHANTECAILLE group, create and improve compliance processes within the CHANTECAILLE group
- Manage compliance program, train colleagues on legal and company policies and track and report such compliance
- Assist with audits and other risk management initiatives
- Liaise with external lawyers and manage legal & compliance budget
- Closely collaborate with La Prairie’s and Beiersdorf’s legal & compliance teams, e.g. for IP and brand protection-, data protection and other compliance matters
- Coordinate as necessary with corporate, regional, and global legal colleagues
Position Qualifications
- Several (8+) years of experience as Legal Counsel in a similar position in the legal department of an international corporation or in an international business law firm
- Doctorate of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from an accredited law school/university required
- A member, in good standing of a U.S. State Bar with the ability to practice law in New York or join the NY In-House Counsel bar
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Strong, clear, concise communication skills that can adapt based on the audience; comfort in communicating to internal clients at all levels of the organization
- Strong negotiation and facilitation skills
- Experience with drafting and reviewing commercial contracts
- Experience with advertising laws/regulations or intellectual property preferred
- Consumer products/cosmetics and or in-house counsel experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to approach issues with both a general management and general counsel mindset, considering business priorities in providing legal recommendations and solutions, as well as the ability to spot legal issues across disciplines and facilitate conversations with the right subject matter experts to ensure the delivery of holistic, actionable legal counsel to stakeholders
- Positive team member and active contributor in a team environment

- Strong attention to detail, responsive and well organize
- The ability to travel domestically and internationally (<10%)
