The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced legal professional to join our team as Head of Legal with a clear growth path to General Counsel and ultimately Chief Legal Officer as our incubator scales. This is an equity-first opportunity for a strategic legal mind who wants to build something groundbreaking from the early stages.
Role Evolution
- Initial Role: Head of Legal – Establish our legal foundation and manage immediate legal needs
- Growth Path: General Counsel – Expand responsibilities as our portfolio grows
- Target Position: Chief Legal Officer – Strategic executive role with full legal oversight
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement legal strategy for our incubator and portfolio companies
- Structure and negotiate agreements for new business ventures and partnerships
- Establish compliance frameworks across diverse business models
- Advise on corporate governance, equity structures, and capital raising activities
- Provide practical legal counsel on operational matters for our incubated businesses
- Lead intellectual property strategy and protection for our portfolio
- Build and manage relationships with external counsel when specialized expertise is needed
- Participate actively in business development and strategic discussions beyond purely legal matters
Requirements
- JD from an accredited law school with 8+ years of relevant legal experience
- Experience supporting startups or new business ventures
- Knowledge of multiple industries and business models
- Demonstrated ability to balance legal risk management with business objectives
- Strong understanding of early-stage company legal needs including equity structures
- Experience supporting fundraising activities and investor relations
- Excellent communication skills with ability to translate complex legal concepts for non-legal audiences
- Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
- Track record of operational involvement beyond traditional legal advisory roles
- Bar admission in good standing (location flexible)
Compensation
- This is initially an equity-focused position with significant ownership opportunity
